Methane is the second biggest greenhouse gas. It isn't the biggest greenhouse gas, but it is the most powerful. The greenhouse effect is the way in which heat is trapped close to the surface of the Earth by “greenhouse gases.” These heat-trapping gases can be thought of as a blanket wrapped around the Earth, which keeps it toastier than it would be without them. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Greenhouse gases cause climate change and respiratory disease from smog and pollution.
Methane's ability to absorb heat in the Earth's atmosphere is why it is the most potent. One cause of methane is from cows' excrement. Cows excrement release methane, which goes into the air. Approximately 25% of the world's global warming due to methane emissions. Cattle in the US alone produce an estimated two billion tons of manure each year. By 2030, the planet will be generating at least 5 billion tons of poo each year, with the vast majority being deposited by livestock.

Despite extensive Environmental Agency regulations, the UK’s dairy, poultry, and pig farms were responsible for 424 incidents of serious pollution-related to waste disposal between 2010 and 2016.
The phosphorus and nitrogen in cow manure, after it’s applied to farmland as fertilizer, can run off with rainfall into local waterways, contributing to water turning green and can produce toxins harmful to drinking water. The manure is going into waterways and drinking water in some areas.
